Ship Equip signs SEVSAT order no. 1000 with large shipping company

The milestone order no. 1000 came as part of a large fleet contract of 67 vessels signed last week. Since the launch in 2003 SEVSAT from Ship Equip has gone from being the VSAT product that challenged the established to the product that sets the standard.

-          We have seen a steady growth in orders since the launch CEO Ivar Nesset says. It started with mainly Offshore Support Vessels and Fishing Vessels, and gradually Shipping Fleets have become a more and more important customer segment. In offshore the needs were partly dictated by the oil majors, who needed the broadband to transfer data from the oil fields to its land offices. The fishing vessels started to lose crew to the OSV’s and ordered VSAT to retain their experienced workforce. In shipping the picture is more mixed, with some ship owners installing SEVSAT to improve operational efficiency, some to enable online systems onboard the ships and some to attract and retain a younger crew who are more or less dependent on being able to communicate online.

-          The SEVSAT solution now consists of a variety of services suitable for different needs explain CSO Gilles A. Gillesen. VSAT no longer has to be a high end solution. The payments from crew through prepaid services like Crew Calling contributes to keeping the cost of a SEVSAT system on par with dial up limited bandwidth systems. This has been confirmed through a number of contracts lately with high profile ship owners that now see VSAT as a cost efficient solution. Also our ability to offer flexibility in bandwidth means you will never get locked in to a capacity that is not right for your ships.

The new contracts add to the order backlog of in excess of 200 vessels and come on top of the 800 systems already installed and in operation.
